The internal combustion engine also comprises air adjusting means for adjusting the quantity of air entering the combustion chamber, and comprises a catalytic converter for carrying out a subsequent treatment of exhaust gas. The invention is characterized in that the lambda value in the combustion chamber can be adjusted according to the temperature of the catalytic converter for carrying out the subsequent treatment of exhaust gas.
