The guide rail (01) guides a feed element for inserting the end of a material web into a processing machine and/or for carrying the web through the machine. The guide rail can be cooled by a cooling device (03, 04, 06, 07, 08). The guide rail may contain a coolant channel (03), with an inlet (04) and an outlet (06) for the coolant.
