An electromagnetic pump comprising an armature 43 comprising a pole portion 48 joined to a plunger portion 59, wherein the plunger portion 59 comprises a one-piece structure including shaft portions 60 of increasing diameters and a head portion 64 comprising a diameter greater than the shaft portions 60, the plunger portion 59 and a pole portion 48 located internal to the pump housing 10 for magnetic attraction by an electromagnet means 100. A retainer element 52 is joined with the plunger portion 59 and a main spring 90 urges on the retainer 52 element to move the plunger 59 thus allowing for a return stoke of the plunger 59 as the pump cycles. Guiding of the armature 43 is performed exclusively by a cooperating relationship between the armature plunger portion 59 and an adjacent portion at the pump housing 10.
