730,987. Friction clutches. FIPPARD, A. J. May 26, 1953 [Nov. 25, 1952], No. 29832/52. Class 80 (2). Clutch members 7, 8 on shafts 4, 5 are arranged in a case 1. The shafts extend through sealing means in opposite ends 2 of the case. The space between the clutch members is vented and fluid pressure, admitted between the case ends 2 and the clutch members 7, 8, moves the latter into clutching engagement. Springs 9, 11 disengage the clutch upon removal of the fluid pressure. As shown, skirts 16, 17 on the mem. bers 7, 8 have fluid-tight engagement with the wall of the case 1. In a modification a skirt on one clutch member overlaps a cylindrical part on the other clutch'part, sealing rings being fitted between the engaging parts. In this construction the peripheries of the two clutch parts are clear of the case 1.
|
