PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load body driving device which efficiently operates a load body vertically and provides a clutch lowering by its self-weight of the load body in a part where torque is small. SOLUTION: This load body driving device has an output driving shaft 12 for vertically driving a spindle 2 to which the load body is attached through a power transmission device 17, a manually operated handle 1 driven by and connected with a manually operated driving shaft 15 in a manually operated driving system 45 connected with the output driving shaft 12 through the first clutch 5, a screw brake 4 constituting a self-lock mechanism assembled into the manually operated driving system 45, a motor 3 connected with the output driving shaft 12 through the second clutch 9, and a lock mechanism 50 capable of operating a locking piece provided in the manually operated handle 1 so as to engage it with or disengage it from an engaging part provided in a housing of the female screw brake 4 to rotate or lock the manually operated handle 1.
