PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a gear testing apparatus and to reduce its design costs. SOLUTION: The testing apparatus for the backlashless rotation of a gear normally comprises a base 1 comprising a fixed shaft 2 to which a test gear 3 can be attached and which can drive a motor, a reciprocating slider 7 on which a shaft 14 used to adjust the slack of the rotation of a mating gear 13 is arranged and which is guided so as to facilitate a movement in a direction at the intercentral distance of two gears, a first method in which a specific test intercentral distance 20 between the two gears is set, a second method in which a specific test force used to engage the two gears at definite intervals is provided and a third method in which a change in the intercentral distance is measured when the two gears are turned. In order to simplify the testing apparatus and to reduce its design costs, the fixation part 16 of a linear motor 12 is arranged on the base, its moving part 17 is arranged on the reciprocating slider, and the linear motor can be used for a related separate CNC control operation with reference to all the three methods.
