PURPOSE: A method for expanding the recording capacity of a hard disk drive is provided to record servo synchronization, index information, and gray codes with a half-pulse, thereby reducing the recording capacity of a servo sector, and expanding the capacity of a user data area. CONSTITUTION: Synchronous and data pulses are continuously repeatedly recorded after a servo address mark. First and second data pulses correspond to 2 bit data information representing index information -1 and 0. Third data pulse to fifteenth data pulse represent from gray code -12 bit to gray code -0 bit. In the synchronous signal, only half-pulse exists while the other part of the synchronous signal represents existence of data. If data exists, the rest of half-pulse represents +1 or -1 pulse. If no data exists, the rest of half-pulse represents 0 pulse.
