PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to read and write data by designating a device of a PLC (programmable logic controller) of another manufacturer from a PLC, not by a device-code and an allotment number (a terminal number, etc.), but by a variable. SOLUTION: In this control display system, reference file making part 32c of a computer unit 3 makes a reference file F associating device-codes ('X' if it is an input device, for example) and allotment numbers (0, 1, 2, ...) used when a PLC 2 designates an input or output unit 4 (a device) to variables (device names). In a programmable display unit 1 of this system, a control-function program which realizes PLC function has an intermediate processing part 45, an execution part 43 which executes a ladder-program designates the input or output unit 4 by the variable and requests to read and write the data. As a result, the intermediate processing part 45 executes reading and writing of the data to the PLC 2 through a PLC communication control unit 42 and updates the read-out data as the new data of the variable referring a reference file F.
