PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving controller for a display unit having digitized ABL giving a visual feeling of neither physical disorder nor disturbance to an observer or an equivalent function, a video display unit, a driving control method, and design property. SOLUTION: The driving controller 30 which controls the driving of the display unit 20 displaying a picture according to an inputted picture signal S1 (or S2) has a luminance control means (33, 21 and 7) for controlling the display luminance of the display unit 20 according to luminance information S6 corresponding to the mean luminance of the picture, and the luminance control means (33, 21 and 7) performs control so that the display luminance of the display picture intermittently change a plurality of times within a one- frame scanning period of the display picture. |
