PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of instability in image density or the generation of fogging because the changeover between the image forming condition for a control patch and the image forming condition for forming an image on a recording material cannot follow the image forming speed in a conventional image density control using the control patch. SOLUTION: In the method, image density control is carried out by using the control patch consisting of a dither pattern.
