Electrochemical element comprises a polymer cell composite housed in an insulating composite body with vapor diffusion barriers. The polymer cell composite is made from an anode and cathode molded as a layer separated by a polymer electrolyte separator and made into a polymer composite having current conducting strips arranged on the sides of the anode and cathode facing away from the separator. The composite body is an integrated component of the polymer cell composite which is applied as a diffusion-tight composite layer without seams, edges and gaps. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the composite body for an electrochemical element. Preferably the current conducting strips form the vapor diffusion barriers and are metallic foils or foils made from electroconducting polymers or polymer blends.
