PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-conditioning system and a method of controlling it capable of reducing the rate of occurrence of errors that could occur in setting the addresses of indoor machines, and reducing the time required for the setting. SOLUTION: The air-conditioning system includes a plurality of indoor machines installed indoors for air-conditioning, and an outdoor machine controlling the indoor machines. Information about production numbers characteristic of the indoor machines, imparted for the production of the indoor machines so that the outdoor machine can control the plurality of indoor machines, is grasped to enable classification of the indoor machines, and the addresses of the plurality of indoor machines are automatically set according to the production numbers grasped.
