The system consists of an opto-electronic transmitter (302) having an electrical input and optical output. A signal generator (502) has an input to receive test data that is shifted into a boundary-scan cell and an output to provide conditional test data to the input of the opto-electronic transmitter. Logic is coupled between the signal generator input and output for generating the conditioned test data. An Independent claim is also included for a method of testing opto-electronic devices.
