PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite sliding material comprising boron nitride and silicon nitride, in which boron nitride contents are much larger than the silicon nitride contents, which shows an excellent sliding property, mechanical impact resistance and mechanical strength and can be molded into a given complex shape. SOLUTION: A mixed composition containing a hexagonal boron nitride powder and an organic vehicle is kneaded, molded and burned in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The burnt product is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to oxidize and remove a carbon binder while retaining its shape to form a porous burnt product comprising the hexagonal boron nitride powder. A solution containing a starting material for an amorphous silicon nitride is filled into the pores of the porous burnt product which is subsequently burned in an inert atmosphere such as a nitrogen atmosphere, etc., or an ammonia gas atmosphere at 1,200-1,300 deg.C. |
