PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a mechanical pencil with a cap, when the lead of the pencil is propelled by an erroneous nocking operation while the cap is attached, the lead collided with the inside of the cap to be broken. SOLUTION: In the mechanical pencil with the cap, a lead protection member 10 comprising an elastomer which elastically receives the lead propelled from the tip opening of a tip member 2 fitted to the tip part of a shaft cylinder 1 in the cap 3 and makes the lead retreat by biasing the lead backward by its elastic force when a chuck ring 5 is detached to release a chuck 4 in a lead propelling process is fitted in the cap 3.
