The invention concerns a method for setting a pressing tool, whereby a control process is carried out for parallel control of a plurality of adjustable equipment items (10-16), said method being based on a flow chart of a press stroke for a press cycle. The invention is characterized in that the parametering nominal values are determined (42) for the equipment items and a test stroke is launched to monitor the control process. The invention aims at rationalizing said process and minimizing failures and breakdowns of the press. Therefor, the test stroke is simulated in a calculating device (C) in the form of a virtual stroke (43). The invention also concerns a method for monitoring such a press tool, whereby a control process manages a plurality of adjustable equipment items (10-16) of a press tool for a plurality of press cycles, said control depending on parameters concerning the tool and/or the material to be pressed for each of the equipment items. The invention aims at long term monitoring and analysis of modifications of the press and/or tool. Therefor, in order to monitor the operating conditions of the press in real time, at least one operating parameter is input and edited (63) for comparison with previously input operating parameters.
