The retaining element for a boot on a ski board comprises a body (3) which carries a retaining jaw with two webs (6,7). There is spring (14) housed in the body and a chain of connecting elements (6a,7a) between each web and spring such that the spring opposes outward displacement of either web. A vertically movable support plate supports part of the boot. A transmission connection activated by movement of the support plate modifies the return force the spring opposes to movement of each web. The transmission connection acts in a different way on the return force than that the spring exerts on each web. This results in the release threshold of one of the webs to be momentarily greater than that of the other web.
