<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain, in a brake pedal device of an automobile, the protrusion quantity of a brake pedal toward a cabin side against excessively strong force applied by a front-end collision and the like. SOLUTION: A brake pedal 16 is rotatably supported with a pneumatic booster 5 and a master cylinder 10 mounted at an engine room 2 side of a dash panel 4, and a pedal bracket 13 at a cabin 3 side. A pie-shaped gear 18 attached to a shaft 17 of the brake pedal 16 in an integrally rotatable manner and a rack 20 formed at an input rod 12 are intermeshed. When the brake pedal 16 is pressed down, the pie-shaped gear 18 rotates and presses the input rod 12 to generate brake hydraulic pressure by activating the pneumatic booster and the master cylinder 10. When the input rod 12 is retreated to an original position by an excessive external force caused by a front-end collision and the like, the protrusion quantity toward the cabin 3 side can be constrained because the intermesh of the pie-shaped gear 18 and the rack 20 is cancelled and the rotation of the brake pedal 16 is curbed.</p> |
