PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of polymerizing an olefin that is highly suitable for a process for slurry polymerization and makes it possible to manufacture an olefin polymer having high qualities. SOLUTION: A catalyst comprising (a) a modified clay compound, (b) a transition metal compound and (c) an organoaluminum compound is used to carry out the olefin polymerization in the presence of (d) a polyoxyalkylene sorbitol fatty acid ester.
