A fastener for an airbag cover, the fastener comprising first and second stringer tapes 102 which are fixed to edges of an opening 23 in the airbag cover. The stringer tapes 102 each have a row of coupling elements 104 mounted thereon, and these link together to connect the stringer tapes 102. The connection is strong within an area of coupling elements 104 which have been connected, but is easily disengaged from the ends of a region of connected coupling elements 104. The fastener comprises holding means 115 which hold the tapes 102 together at a predetermined position in the middle region of the fastener. The holding means 115 will release or displace under the force of the airbag 30 expanding. When the airbag 30 expands, e.g. during a car crash, the holding means allows the coupling elements 104 to open, thus opening the fastener and allowing the airbag 30 to expand outside the airbag cover. <IMAGE> <IMAGE> |
