PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a hard coat film with high utilization efficiency of a hard coat liquid and to provide a hard coating composition used in the method. SOLUTION: A body to be coated is coated with a hard coating composition by discharging the hard coating composition as mist from an ink jet system small nozzle. The hard coating composition comprises a polymerizable organic compound, inorganic fine particles, water and an organic solvent as solvents and has 1-19 wt.% solid content and 30-84 wt.% water content and the amount of the high boiling point organic solvent is 10-45 wt.%.
