PURPOSE: An operating apparatus for a manual transmission is provided to prevent a shifting cable from bending when a gear shift lever is operated and to transmit regular operating force through the shifting cable. CONSTITUTION: An operating apparatus for a manual transmission includes a sliding guide device. The sliding guide device is installed between a control shaft(1) and a shift lever(3). Therein, slide of the shift lever is free and rotation is restricted along longitudinal direction of the control shaft. The sliding guide device comprises guide grooves; concave groove portions and a ball bearing. Guide grooves are formed to the control shaft longitudinally. Concave groove portions are arranged to corresponding places of guide grooves on the shift lever. The ball bearing is interposed between guide grooves and concave groove portions. A connection of the control shaft and the shift lever is stable because of a double structure of the ball bearing. Guide grooves are allowed slide of the shift lever in specific strokes not to remove the shift lever. A shift lever guide(13) for a case(11) of the transmission restricts an upward movement of the shift lever. Thereby, the shifting cable is not bent because the shift lever and the shifting cable are not moved by a selecting action of a driver.
