The separation of dissolved and/or undissolved substances from fluid media involves using a treatment system which combines crossflow filtration and adsorption technique, and implements either sequentially or simultaneously such that the adsorbent and the fluid medium flow over the filter membranes. The adsorbent is selected from activated carbon, alumina, silica gel, carbon black and/or zeoliths.
