The symbol such as secret mark or watermark is modulated by pseudo random sequence and the modulated symbol is inserted in the spatial domain of an image which is bounded between two images having no inserted watermarks. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) message extraction method; (2) message insertion device; and (3) message extraction device.
