Wood chips generated as waste product e.g. during sawing, milling, and planing, are segmented by special tools in longitudinal fiber direction into small strips to form fine flakes. The tools used for segmentation are mechanical, e.g. stationary or moveable spur blades, lead saws, gate saws, or comb-like plane irons; pneumatic, e.g. directed compressed air jets, perhaps with the inclusion of particles; hydraulic, e.g. directed water jets, including particles; acoustic, e.g. sound waves with bundled supersonics; or electromagnetic, e.g. Lasers. The produced fine flakes have a shape factor of 5-500, a thickness of 0,1mm-1,0mm.
