PURPOSE: To obtain an optical retardation film with which a high contrast liquid crystal display device of a VA (vertically aligned) mode or the like with improved viewing angle characteristics is formed and which is thin and is excellent in mass productivity. CONSTITUTION: A laminated optical retardation film is constructed of a laminated body consisting of an optical retardation layer A exhibiting positive birefringence characteristics and composed of a thermoplastic resin and an optical retardation layer B exhibiting selective reflection in ≤350 nm wavelength region composed of a cholesteric liquid crystal layer with fixed orientation. When in-plane principal indices of refraction are represented by nx, ny, a refractive index in the thickness direction is represented by nz, layer thickness is represented by d and equations Re=(nx-ny)xd and Rth=(nx-nz)xd are used, the laminated body is provided with ≧10 nm Re and ≧50 nm Rth-Re. A polarizing member consists of a laminate body of the laminated optical retardation film and a polarizer. A liquid crystal display device is constructed by disposing the laminated optical retardation films or the polarizing member on at least one side of a liquid crystal cell.
