PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the image quality of a digital image forming device such as a digital camera over a wide signal level range. SOLUTION: The method includes steps of; providing a digital image signal; and selecting a color corrector based at least in part on an S/N of the digital image signal to correct the digital image signal. In an embodiment of this invention, the digital image signal includes an output from an image sensing device (14), and an S/N estimate device (18) calculates an estimated value of the average S/N of the output digital image signal. The color corrector possibly being a color correction matrix (22) is selected on the basis of the estimated average S/N.
