The production of a galvanic layer with a definite spatial extension on an electrically conductive substrate surface (2), having a contour of any shape, is carried out by applying an electrolyte jet (7) against the substrate surface by a nozzle (6) and passing a current between the nozzle and the substrate surface principally across the electrolyte jet. The connection of the nozzle and the substrate surface is variable during the coating operation. An Independent claim is also included for a device for the production of a galvanic layer having a definite spatial extension on a substrate surface.
