PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of high-speed and high-quality read by using a light source having a large quantity of light. SOLUTION: A filter turret 64, a diffusion box 70, a filter scanner 74, a lens unit 76 and a line CCD sensor 30 are located on the light emitting side of a light source 66, such as halogen lamp or metal halide for emitting light including three primary colors of RGB and infrared light. Then, the filter turret 64 is located with an RGB balance filter 78 for balancing the quantity of light in each of color components of RGB and shielding the IR light of a prescribed quantity, and an IR cut RGB balance filter 80 for shielding IR light and balancing the quantity of light in each of color components of RGB. The filter turret is rotated by driving a motor 82 so that the IR cut RGB balance filter 80 can be positioned on an optical axis when acquiring RGB data, and is rotated by driving the motor 82 so that the RGB balance filter 78 can be positioned on the optical axis when acquiring IR data.
