PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monomer composition for a plastic optical material which protects eyes from ultraviolet rays, suffers from no yellowing, and is excellent in various properties such as a low specific gravity, heat resistance, impact resistance and the like. SOLUTION: The monomer composition for an optical material comprises as polymerizable ingredients a monomer composition comprising a specific di(meth)acrylate, a monomer bearing in one molecule at least one vinyl group other than the di(meth)acrylate, a benzotriazole-based ultraviolet absorber and a dye having a maximum absorption wavelength in the wavelength region of 520-650 nm, and has a yellowness (b*) of 1.0 or less in the L*a*b* color system when the optical path length is 2 mm.
