The invention concerns a method for producing elongated dispersion strengthened metal alloy products. A surface oxidised metal alloy powder is provided in a pipe, wherein the metal alloy powder is an alloy of a matrix metal and at least one solute metal having a negative energy of oxide formation exceeding that of the matrix metal. The powder in the pipe is compacted and the powder-containing pipe is extruded into an elongated product, while simultaneously being internally oxidised, and is thereafter subjected to an elevated temperature to complete the internal oxidation.
