PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure phase boron nitride sintered compact having a strong bonding or retentive force even at a high temperature, particularly in the application to a throw-away tip, and also provide its effective production method. SOLUTION: This production method is characterized by thickly mixing a high pressure phase boron nitride particle with a first metallic material particle containing a ceramic-forming metal capable of forming a nitride and/or boride to make a sintering material, storing the sintering material in a high melting point metal vessel, forming the nitride and/or boride film of the ceramic- forming metal and its particle on the surface of the boron nitride particle by reacting it with the ceramic-forming metal under the pressure and temperature within a region in which the high pressure phase boron nitride is thermodynamically stable and at the same time, generating a liquid phase by heating the first metallic material to its melting temperature to penetrate into the boron nitride to perform the sintering integration of the sintering material by the liquid phase. |
