PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite roll for hot rolling excellent in abrasion resistance, rough surface resistance, and threading properties, using Heiss system materials. SOLUTION: The composite roll for hot rolling is characterized in that the composite roll has a fixed roll diameter L0 in the axis direction and its inner layer I is composed of steel system materials and its outer layer O is composed of Heiss system materials, and by employing shapes in the inner layer I composed of steel materials, the inner layer diameter L1 in both end regions of the roll is so constituted as to be larger than the inner layer diameter L2 in the central area of the roll, and so that the cross section area ratio of the outer layer O to the inner layer I in the central area of the roll at the time of the roll scrap is at least 1/4 or more, the ratio of the inner layer I to the outer layer O in the central area of the roll is determined, by which thermal expansion coefficient in the central area of the roll is restrained to 12×10<-6> / deg.C or less.
