PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently conduct a pre-scan and a fine-scan. SOLUTION: IX240 type of photographic film 26 is conveyed in a conveyance path 24 of a film carrier. In the conveyance path 24, a pre-scanning opening 46, a magnetic head 47, and a fine-scanning opening 50 are formed, and a pre- scan of the photographic film 26; reading of a magnetic record layer and a fine-scan are conducted at respective locations. If a length from an optical axis 60a to an optical axis 65a of a scanner part which conducts the pre-scan and the fine-scan is L, a center-to-center length of photographic frames of the photographic film is P, and a width of a magnetic head is W, L>=(3/2)P+(1/2)W is preferable for efficient reading of images.
