摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material for a negative electrode which is basically composed of artificial graphite and natural graphite and is applied to a lithium ion secondary battery of high capacity and high efficiency, and to provide the lithium ion secondary battery using the carbon material for the negative electrode. SOLUTION: At least either of the artificial graphite or natural graphite is mixed with a pitch in a weight ratio of 95/5 to 50/50 to form a mixture, which is then subjected to a heat treatment at a temperature of 600 to 800 deg.C under an inert atmosphere, thus obtaining a carbon material for the negative electrode. The carbon material is used for the negative electrode of the lithium ion secondary battery.
