PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape width measuring device that is able to make measurement in submicron magnitude or more specifically accurate measurement up to 0.01-micrometer units. SOLUTION: This tape width-measuring device is characterized in that it has a magnetic tape transport and a magnetic sensor disposed in this transport. Moreover, it is desirable to use a magnetoresistive effect element for the magnetic sensor, and that in the shape of a magnetic head. Further, it is more desirable to provide a converter in the above configuration to convert the output of the sensor into the tape width.
