PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die checking method and device for punch press which performs proper punching processing by confirming the combination of a punch and die, and directional accuracy. SOLUTION: A punch or die mounted on a punch press 1 is made to approach by having them stroke at extremely low pressure and speed so that die damage is avoided just in case an abnormal situation happens due to being controlled by a die speed controller 43, and the pressure which affects the punch and die is detected by a load cell 18 during this stroke. Then, if it is determined by a pressure abnormality determination means 39 until the stroke is completed that there is a pressure abnormality, an alarm signal is sent from an alarm generater 41 to an output device 37, and an alarm is given by the output device 37.
