<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive, small-sized optical equalizer which can equalize the gain of EDFA without depending upon wavelength and comprises a small number of components. SOLUTION: An optical multiplexer demultiplexer 2 is formed by providing a circuit which has an array waveguide diffraction grating, a variable optical attenuator 3 is connected to a light output part 9 of the optical multiplexer demultiplexer 2, and a photodetecting element 5 is connected to the output side of the variable optical attenuator 3. The optical multiplexer demultiplexer 2 and variable optical attenuator 3 are composed of a plane optical waveguide circuit and the photodetecting element 5 is mounted on one end side of the plane optical waveguide circuit. Each variable optical attenuator 3 attenuates light power by wavelengths of light passing through the optical multiplexer demultiplexer 2 and the photodetecting element 5 monitors light power characteristics attenuated by the variable optical attenuator 3.</p> |
