Single-dose oral formulations for controlling an ectoparasite infestation on a companion animal for a prolonged time, said formulations comprising a spinosyn component, or a physiologically acceptable derivative or salt thereof, and a carrier in oral dosage form. Also provided are methods for controlling such infestations comprising orally administering a single dose of these formulations to the animal.
