The ferrule has a plug housing (2) which can be plugged into a ferrule container in a plugging in direction (3) or can be combined with another plug housing. The plug housing (2) has a polygonal cross-section looked at in the plugging in direction. The cross section is defined e.g. by four side surfaces (4,5,6,7). The plug housing (2) has on its outer side in the region of at least one side surface, at least one coding element (13) running in the plugging in direction. The coding elements are formed as a coding bevel or edge in the region of a connecting edge between two side surfaces. At least one holding region for holding the optical multiple fibre may be provided in the plug housing.
