The invention relates to a device for adjusting the torque transmitted by a friction clutch (12). This device comprises an actuator chain consisting of an electric motor (45), a reduction gear (42) and of a mechanism for converting rotational motion into a displacement of a pressure plate (29) of the clutch (12). The aim of the invention is to enable the transmitted torque to be precisely and rapidly adjusted even in the event of a high level of friction. To this end, the electric motor (45) and/or the reduction gear (42) are/is subjected to the action of friction, and the mechanism (31,32,35,36,40) for converting and/or the friction clutch (12) itself are/is subjected to the action of elasticity. In order to adjust the torque (Md) of the friction clutch (12), a position controller (47) is provided that is actively connected to the electric motor (45), and a sensor (46, 46') is provided, which determines the position of one of the elements of the actuator chain (45,42,41,40,36,35,32,31,29) and which, in the direction of the power flux, is located at a position in front of a significant portion of the elasticity.
