[Also in Groups VII and X] Means for sealing an aperture 16 in a suit 11 comprise two co-operating strips 14 and 15 of flexible waterproof material. The strip 14 is longer than the strip 15 and is sufficiently stiff to form a bow concave towards the strip 15 when the aperture is open as shown in Fig. 1. The strip 15 is sufficiently elastic to stretch to the length of the strip 14. To seal the aperture the strips are flexed around the body of the wearer of the suit and secured by the straps 17 and 18 so that the strip 15 is stretched and bears tightly against the inner strip 14. The triangular crosssection of the strip 15 and the corresponding groove 21 in the strip 14 prevent lateral slip. For suits which have to be sealed against the escape of internal pressure (such as airmen's suits) the strips are modified by the addition of an interlocking bead and groove (Fig. 5). In a further modification (not shown - see Fig. 7), the strip 15 comprises a tubular bead which has a port leading to the interior of the suit. |
