Drafting roller pair for card or drawframe, has friction disks that accelerate upper roller but disengage when sliver is processed

A roller pair for drafting or measuring the thickness of sliver has a fixed rolelr shaft (11) driven by belt (13) or motor and a movable roller shaft (12). During acceleration the movable roller is riven by a friction disk (8) that engages a friction disk on the fixed roller shaft (11). When there is sliver between the rollers, the shafts (11,12) move apart and the friction disks disengage so that the drive is through the sliver. The bearing support for the movable roller shaft (12) swings about a pivot (16) and is spring (18) or pneumatically loaded. Sensors disengage the rollers when a wrap is formed. Adjustment is provided for different thicknesses of sliver.
