PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording tape which has excellent traveling durability and preservable property and makes high-density recording possible. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording tape is a magnetic recording tape having a nonmagnetic layer containing nonmagnetic powder and a binder and a magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder in this order on a nonmagnetic flexible base, in which the average thickness of the magnetic layer ranges from 0.02 to 0.3μm and the magnetic layer contains diamond powder of <=0.4μm in the maximum primary particle diameter.
