PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an unsaturated polyester resin composition which can give molded articles, such as artificial marbles, having excellent transparency, excellent strengths and excellent hot water resistance, and is suitable as a material for the molded articles, and to provide a molded article obtained by curing the unsaturated polyester resin composition. SOLUTION: This unsaturated polyester resin composition comprising an inorganic filler and a resin component comprising 30 to 60 wt.% of a polymerizable monomer and 40 to 70 wt.% of an unsaturated polyester formed from anα,β-ethylenic unsaturated polybasic acid component, a saturated polybasic acid component and a polyhydric alcohol component as constituents is characterized in that the unsaturated polyester has an aromatic group concentration of >=36%, a degree of unsaturation of 1.4 to 2.2 moles/1,000 g of the unsaturated polyester, and a saponification value of <=400 mgKOH. And the molded article obtained by curing the unsaturated polyester resin composition.
