PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting surface flaw in a continuous casting with which a cast slab developing an opened longitudinal crack is prevented to flow out to a next process. SOLUTION: The surface 2a of the cast slab 2 is image-input with a camera 4 at any time, and a monitor 6 indicating this image is observed and judged whether or not the longitudinal crack W on the surface 2a exists. In the case of judging what the longitudinal crack W on the surface 2a exists, a torch shifting part 16 is shifted in the width direction and scarfing is vertically performed to the longitudinal crack W by hitting flame F toward the surface 2a of the cast slab 2 from the vertically upper part, with a torch part 14. Then, the state of the flame F hit to the longitudinal crack W is image-input with a camera 10 at any time, and a monitor 12 indicating this image, is observed and it is judged whether or not the flame F hit to the longitudinal crack W is disturbed.
