PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe artificial nail which does not give rise to side effects, such as peeling of a sell nail or inflammation or the skin, and a method of forming the same. SOLUTION: The artificial nail 20 is formed by superposing thin silk fabrics of >=2 sheets, solidifying the silk fabrics by using, for example, a thermoplastic resin which matches well with the silk material, then cutting the fabrics to nail shapes of various sizes and individually molding the same by application of heat and pressure. The artificial nail formed in the manner described above is bonded to the self nail 1 from the root (right above the cuticle) so as to cover the entire part of the self nail 1 and thereafter the shapes of both sides are trimmed to conform with the self nail 1 and the artificial nail is finished by further trimming the front end to a desired length.
