PURPOSE: To provide an infrared detecting device in which electric power consumption is reduced during standby. CONSTITUTION: A mode switching determining part 6 is provided with both an input signal determining circuit 6A comprised of a wind comparator for capturing the amplification output of a voltage amplifying circuit 3 of an infrared detecting part X and determining the presence or absence of infrared detection at a predetermined level or higher and a mode switching circuit 6B for switching and setting as to whether limiting a current to flow through an I/V converting circuit 2 and each of circuits 3-5 of the infrared detecting part X into a current smaller than a rated current or into the rated current.
