<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-functional and efficient ATM communication controller. SOLUTION: A virtual connection identifier converter is provided with an original virtual connection identifier extracting means for extracting an original virtual connection identifier housed in a unit signal from the unit signal, a converted virtual connection identifier retrieving means for acquiring a converted virtual connection identifier as a retrieved result by using the extracted original virtual connection identifier as at least a part of retrieval keys, a processing means having a plurality of processing parts for carrying out different processing to the constituting elements of the unit signal, and a selecting means for deciding the classification of an intermediate protocol corresponding to the unit signal according to the original virtual connection identifier, and for selecting the processing part from those processing parts according to the decided result. Then, the converted virtual connection identifier is applied to the unit signal to be processed by the processing part selected by the selecting means.</p> |
