A novel human factor H-related protein (FHR-5) is disclosed. Included within the scope of the invention are the amino acid sequence of FHR-5, nucleic acid sequences encoding the amino acid sequence of FHR-5 and substantially identical amino acid and nucleotide sequences. Also within the scope of the invention are vectors comprising the nucleotide sequences of the invention, transgenic host cells containing the nucleotide sequences of the invention and antibodies that react with the FHR-5 protein.
